THE VIRTUAL HOSPITALITY MUSEUM

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS AND VOLUNTEERS

Hello Hospitality fan,

We know recovery will be slow. Some may not make it. Why not preserve highlights? The gems. The love. So I had an idea ( and you know I am one crafty character) : A virtual museum of Canadian hospitality.

I think we need an unifying project that can help us celebrate what we’ve had and what we can do, and share that with the world.
I, for one, want a quarantine project that is good  and brings some joy to the world.

Know a food scholar? Have old menus? Old wine lists? Know something about restaurants in Canada ? Send them!  hospitality@virmuze.com or to me directly We’ll add them up, set them in a virtual museum where anyone can see how far Canadian hospitality has come along . . And help inspire future generations whenever the time is ready.

The biggest contributors will be rewarded with a little prize every month. All contributors will be given credit of course, in the socials and in the museum (AKA free marketing for you and your brand).
We are doing this in collaboration with one of my friends, who although is not a hospitality person, he is a tech wizard that made www.virmuze.com the museum of museums online.

With the material submitted we will start a page and sort out a timeline / exhibit of restaurants in Canada, that can start with the first native settlers and end yesterday.
The software of Virmuze is powerful, and can handle text, voice, video and many types of media. Even better, it’s FREE.

So let me know if you are interested. We will need volunteers, and I have have a google docs to help us get started and somewhat sorted. Scroll down for FAQ

Between Ian and I we will upload and sort the contributions. You are also welcome to start your own museum and we can link to whatever you post.

Hope that together we can build something cool and interesting that can bring some hope to everyone.

Yours,
Adrian Marquez.

PS: Here is a video that explains what is possible in Virmuze. Short and sweet, I promise.

SOME STRUCTURE AND QUESTIONS WE’VE PONDERED

HERE IS WHAT WE HAVE IN MIND

WHY?
Food is funny. It’s here today and gone tomorrow, and very often are also the people and the places that make great experiences possible. Even more so in these challenging times.
So what better way to preserve the memories and help the next generation know what was out there before? What good times were had, what great dishes were made.

This will be also a way to show that the craft of food and wine also contributes to the economy, significantly and it brings people together.

WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?
We think we need an unifying project that can help us celebrate what we’ve had and what we can do, and share that with the world.
We want a quarantine project that is good  and brings some joy to the world.

HOW WILL IT WORK?
Anyone can submit material related to hospitality in Canada. RIght now there is information and collections but its all very fragmented. By collaborating we can all contribute whatever we find interesting or worth preserving about hospitality life in general.

HOW WILL IT BE ORGANIZED?
This will be volunteer work, with a couple coordinators and some curators. We can have people organizing things by  city, Province or timeline. What matters is content.

We can start on a google docs. Ideas and notes can be created by many people at the same time. We can have stories, menus, photos, videos, anything you can think of would be great. Funny memes to the front of the line.

WHO CAN CONTRIBUTE?
Anyone !
If you have a story to share, a picture, a video, voice message, some insight, everything will be welcome. It’s not quite wikipedia but it would be close enough.

WILL MARKETING BE ALLOWED?
We’ll leave that up to the contributors.
In the spirit of fair play ideally corporate contributions will receive no more nor less allocation than small restaurants and bars across Canada.

WHO DECIDES WHAT GETS PUT ON?
IT will depend on people and their contribution. Naturally we would screen for questionable content (racist, political, ableist, ) but other than that we ask that there be fair play. Diversity is what makes Canada great.

WHAT ABOUT COPYRIGHT?
I’ll leave the experts at Virmuze to sort that out: [you go here Ian]

HOW MUCH CAN I SUBMIT? WHAT FILE SIZE?
Stay tuned, we’ll figure it out. However, there are very generous allocations for each museum in Virmuze, so we are not too worried.
You could also start your own exhibit and we would branch you to the main exhibit.

WHERE DO I UPLOAD?
You can email the content at hospitality@virmuze.com or send us a link to the google docs: GOOGLE DOCS MASTER SORTER
there will be a google drive address coming soon as well to upload larger files.

WHAT’S THE GOAL?
Having fun, having a sense of community and also drooling at good food! Also, having a wholesome project that helps us get through these uncertain times is good for mental health
